Ruby Springs is in the heart of Southwest Montana’s natural beauty.
The Area
Nestled between the tiny towns of Alder and Laurin, and on the banks of the Ruby River, the location of Ruby Springs Lodge is unmatched. And while fishing is certainly a focus, the lodge property is home to sandhill cranes, whitetail deer, pheasants, ducks, moose, and a myriad of native wildlife — not to mention some of the best sunsets anywhere. We encourage guests to get out and explore our part of Montana, beyond just its fisheries.
Sightseeing
Whether a scenic drive or if hiking is more your style, there are dozens of great destinations not far from the lodge. Montana’s first territorial capitol, Bannack, is definitely worth a visit, with its eerily quiet original log buildings and wooden walkways. For more history but also some shopping and services, visit Virginia City, just down the road, or go up and over the pass to Ennis and the famous Madison Valley. Dillon is worth a visit, and it also happens to boast one of the few Patagonia Clothing outlets in the region.
Golf
You might be surprised to find a Jack Nicklaus-designed golf course within a day’s drive from Ruby Springs — but that’s what we enjoy, with the regionally renowned Old Works course up in Anaconda. Or, if you enjoy the charms of small town courses, you can head to Dillon, Ennis, or other neighborhood style courses. Let us know if you’d like our advice on options, many of our fishing guides spend their days off on the course.
Guided Hiking
If you’d like to hike, we’ve got you covered. There are literally hundreds of miles of trails not far from the lodge, so whether a quick walk in the mountains, or a 20 mile all-day journey, there are options. We can provide suggestions based on your time and priorities for you to head out yourself, or we can arrange a guide to accompany you. Just let us know how we can help you get out into southwest Montana.
Yoga & Massage
What better way to finish off a day of casting and fighting big trout than by enjoying a professional massage? We can arrange for a licensed masseuse to come to the lodge to help you unwind and be ready for more fish. And, we sometimes bring in a yoga instructor as another option for rejuvenation, for morning yoga by the river (weather permitting). Inquire at the office if you would like to learn more about either option.
Horseback Riding
One great way to enjoy southwest Montana’s stunning landscape is to see it from the back of a horse. We can arrange for guided half- and whole-day trips leaving from the lodge or one of a number of local trailheads, so you can experience this uniquely Western mode of transportation as a nice break from fishing. We’ll need some advance notice to arrange, so let us know if this is something you’d like to add to your stay.
